Today the Christmas Season draws to a close with the Feast of the Epiphany of the Lord. Light figures prominently in the liturgy. In today’s first reading (Is. 60), we are invited to “Rise up in splendor for your light has come.” And in today’s gospel (Mt. 2), Magi from the East are led by a star to Christ the Light. The Feast of the Epiphany celebrates the wonderful gift that we Gentiles are coheirs with the Jews in the promise of Christ. If we are co-heirs, we are also co-partners in the mission to bring Christ’s Light to our world. What part of your world needs that light now?
Many of the DePauw students have returned to campus for the Winter Term. We welcome them back to St. Paul’s—their spiritual home away from home.
Cynthia Dewes, Bill Dory, Ken Heeke, Steve Mader, and Mary Williams have graciously volunteered to serve on our Case Development Committee. I am meeting with them this month to develop our “Case” for our upcoming capital campaign. I thank them for serving our parish in this way. And I invite all parishioners to pray for us and for the success of our campaign.
Please note that the 12:15 p.m. Sunday Mass resumes today. Also, the DePauw student Mass, usually held on the second Sunday of the month, will not be held this month of January.
A Catholic Education Study is presently underway for the parishes of the Terre Haute Deanery. As a part of the study, parishioners will be asked to complete a questionnaire about Catholic Education. We will be conducting the survey over two weekends this month: January 13 and 14, and January 20 and 21.
Epiphany: “God decreed that all nations should be saved in Christ…This came to be fulfilled, as we know, from the time when the star beckoned the three wise men out of their distant country and led them to recognize and adore the King of heaven and earth. The obedience of the star calls us to imitate its humble service: to be servants, as best we can, of the grace that invites all people to find Christ.” (St. Leo the Great)
Father Steve
Father Steve’s emergency only number is 720-1254.
Father Steve is away on Mondays.
