FROM FATHER STEVE:
Each Lent we are invited to prepare ourselves by penance for the renewal of our baptismal promises at Easter. In past years, my “penance” has often consisted of fasting, additional prayer, spiritual reading, and almsgiving. This Lent I am taking on the additional penance of my physical injuries (with the limitations and the changes in life they impose). You parishioners are also faced with this new penance. I thank you for embracing it. Together, we will pass from “death to Life.”
“Ice and snow, bless the lord.” These words of praise are included in a canticle found in the Book of Daniel (Dn. 3:70). I suspect these words of praise were far from the thoughts of the many volunteers who chopped their way through the ice and snow on the parish grounds this past Saturday and Sunday. Their labor of love made for a safer passage for all parishioners as they came to Mass. Thanks, y’all.
We continue to benefit from the services of our visiting priests. I want to thank Fr. Don Buchanan who celebrated the Masses last weekend, and Fr. Joe Kern who was here Ash Wednesday and also presided at the Funeral Mass on Thursday.
While I loss ten pounds due to the car accident, I am gaining strength and I am less tired as the days go on. I am convinced that your many prayers have sustained me. I also draw strength from the countless cards sent by parishioners, DePauw Students and the men at the State prison. While I cannot respond to each of you personally, please know of my heartfelt gratitude.
Father Steve
Cards can still be sent to:
Fr. Stephen Jarrell
202 E. Washington St.
Greencastle,, IN 46135
*** There is a basket in the narthex for your cards which will now be delivered daily.
