FROM FATHER STEVE
The early church was quick to adopt today’s Gospel story (Jn. 9) as a part of the catechesis for those preparing for baptism. The healing of the man born blind and his purification in the pool of Siloam was a natural. The spiritual dynamic of the story contrasts the blind man with the Pharisees. The blind man is made to see both physically and spiritually. He puts his faith in Jesus. The Pharisees, on the other hand, can see physically, but spiritually they are totally blind and remain so. For those of us who are baptized, today’s Gospel invites us to assess our own journey of faith.
The Catholic Relief Services Collection will be taken this weekend. This collection makes possible our global mission as U.S. Catholics to combat poverty and to provide relief to those affected by war, migration, or natural disasters.
I hope you will be able to join us for our special Taize Prayer Sunday, March 2. The folks from St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church have been invited to join us for this service of scripture, song, litany, chants, and quiet meditation before the cross. The service will begin at 7 p.m. and will last one hour.
Our community’s Lenten Penance Service (including first reconciliation) will be this Wednesday, March 5, starting at 7:00 p.m. In addition to myself, Father Richard Ginther, Joseph Kern, and Darvin Winters will assist in the administration of the sacrament. Why not share in the gift of this sacrament this Lent?
Our period of prayer and adoration before the Blessed Sacrament is scheduled for this Thursday, 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. The period closes with benediction at 9:00 p.m. Why not do something special this Lent by coming to pray before this great sacrament, whether that be for one hour or however long you can spend
Maurice and Terri McKee are the new chairpersons for our Special Ministers of Holy Communion. I want to thank them for assuming this ministry.
Quote: “If your mercy is thin your harvest will be thin; what you pour out in mercy overflows into your barn. Therefore, do not lose by saving, but gather in by scattering. Give to the poor, and you give to yourself.” (St. Peter Chrysologus)
