FROM FATHER STEVE:
Fr. Joe McNally, a retired priest of the archdiocese, will be helping with our Saturday/Sunday Masses beginning this weekend. When I was in Greenwood, Fr. Joe was pastor of St. Barnabas parish in Indianapolis—my neighbor to the north. Welcome, Fr. Joe!
For the first time in my priesthood I was unable to participate in the Rite of Election. Nonetheless, our catechumens (Corey & Lisa Hutcheson, and their son Drew, as well as Don Pearson) were able to attend the ceremony held at the cathedral last Sunday. Along with dozens of other candidates, they are beginning their last weeks of preparation as they eagerly anticipate their admission into the Catholic Church this Easter. Let’s make sure our Lenten prayer includes these candidates.
Last Monday I had a follow up visit with my neurosurgeon. Additional x-rays were taken of my spinal cord. It is healing well! The bad news is—I will be required to wear my chest brace until April 8th. The good news is—I no longer have to wear the brace while I sleep at night.
While I cannot attend to my usual pastoral obligations, parish life goes on….and in a good way. Betty and Paulette provide their usual good leadership. The Pastoral council, committees and organizations continue to function. And, volunteers continue to step forth as needed. For example, some of those volunteers inaugurated the weekday communion services now held each weekday. Thanks to all of you!
I continue to draw strength from your prayers and good wishes. Let us continue to pray for each other this Lent that “we may be holy as the Lord is holy.”
Father Steve
