FROM FATHER STEVE:
We celebrate our third and final scrutiny on this Fifth Sunday of Lent. We pray for our candidates Cory & Lisa Hutcheson and Don Pearson, who will become Catholics during the Easter Vigil Mass.
Please note that the 10:30 a.m. Mass next Sunday (Palm Sunday) will begin with the procession with palms honoring Christ our Savior.
On behalf of the St. Paul parish community, I want to congratulate the DePauw University women’s basketball team for reaching their national title. They are coached by parishioner Kris Huffman. They have delighted us with their superb play by developing and using their God-given gifts. All of us can learn from them.
Father Bernie LaMontagne wrote to me recently and said, “I really enjoyed being at St. Paul’s. You have a very vibrant community there. It should be the envy of many parishes. I do go to many parishes for weekend liturgies and I find that yours is one of the best that I’ve served.” I thought you would like to know this.
Some folks have asked me, “How do you pass the time each day?” They’re probably worried that I am bored. Believe it or not, the time passes quickly for me. Each day is filled with time for prayer and spiritual reading. I do physical therapy each day. As my strength increases, I do pastoral work and provide input from my “home office”. I never watch daytime television, but you’ll probably catch me watching the evening news, a DVD, or a college basketball game. Some folks have given me word puzzles or sudoku to pass the time. Others have given or loaned books to me. I find reading one of my more enjoyable pastimes. I just started Leo Tolstoy’s “War and Peace.” I figure I’ll be here a long time!
Several of you will be on spring break this week. Whether you’re here or away, be safe and be refreshed.
Father Steve
