FROM FATHER STEVE
The celebration of Christ’s resurrection continues today with festivity and joy. Each year on the Third Sunday of Easter the Gospel proclaims a post-resurrection appearance of Christ in which he shares a meal with his disciples (the eucharistic theme is obvious). In today’s Gospel (Luke 24), Jesus travels with two of the disciples on the road to Emmaus. Once they reach their destination, Jesus “breaks bread” with them. At that moment they recognize him. Through his Paschal Mystery, Christ had found a way to “break bread” with us that we might remain in him. How well do we recognize him in the eucharist? How well do we recognize the eucharist as a great gift?
This weekend, April 5-6, is St. Meinrad Sunday Weekend. Benedictine Father Brendan Moss from St. Meinrad Archabbey is here to celebrate the Masses and explain the important work of St. Meinrad and invite us to participate in their work. He will also use his visit to inspire us to take a more direct interest in promoting vocations to the priesthood and religious life. Parishioners will receive a follow-up mailing from the archabbey. Welcome, Father Brendan!
Theology Night Out is returning with a Wednesday evening program this week (6 p.m., pitch in dinner, 6:45 p.m., program). I hope many of you can attend! The topic is: “Is your faith in Jeopardy?” Test your knowledge of the Catholic faith in the fun interactive format of the game show Jeopardy.
Thanks to the members of the Knights of Columbus and all of you who participated in last Sunday’s Divine Mercy Service. A special thanks to Jean Marie Dreihs who organized the prayer.
Don’t forget that the DePauw Student Mass will be at 4 p.m. next Sunday followed by dinner at 5:15 p.m. Please spread the word.
Many folks joined our Church community this past Easter. As we welcome them and celebrate their commitment, we might take to heart this quote: “Commitment and convenience are not synonymous. To really ‘belong’ to something, I must do what the group is pledged to do whether I feel like it right now or not.”
Father Steve
