FROM FATHER STEVE:

“Alleluia!  This is the day the Lord has made.  Let us rejoice and be glad!”  To visitors, DePauw students, and all parishioners—may the blessings of the Risen Christ be yours.  Thanks to all of you who assisted with all of the liturgies of this past Holy Week.

In the course of the initiation rites during last night’s Easter Vigil Mass, Cory, Lisa and Drew Hutcheson, and Don Pearson became the newest members of our Catholic family.  On behalf of our parish, I congratulate them.  I invite all of you to support them as they venture forward with us in faith.  Thanks to Paulette Davis and all who assisted with their formation this year.

Scripture says that Jesus was buried and rose again on the third day.  My “resurrection” is taking a bit longer.  On April 8 I will have reached three months in my “tomb”—of therapy, braces and splints.  But I am making progress and hope to “rise” again soon.  Like me, I suspect most of your “resurrections” take longer than three days.  Be patient and confident.

Earlier this year, you may recall that an announcement was made by some documentary film makers and scientists that a tomb uncovered nearly thirty years ago in Jerusalem contains the bones of Jesus and his family.  If that is true, we might as well go home!  St. Paul said: “If Christ has not been raised, your faith is vain” (1 Cor. 15:17).  The ultimate “test” for the resurrection is how it affects us now and in the future.  Don Saliers puts it this way: “Easter is key to Christian faith and to life itself.  Easter is about passing from captivity to freedom, from death to life, from illusion to what matters most.”  If this in not happening, perhaps the film makers may be proven right!

Don’t forget that “Theology Night Out” is this coming Thursday.  Topic: “Theology of the body for Parents and Other Reflections on Guiding our Youth.”  Please come!
