FROM FATHER STEVE:
When he was pope, John Paul II designated this Second Sunday of Easter as “Divine Mercy Sunday.” The Holy Father wanted us to realize that the great gift of Jesus’ death and resurrection is the grace to share fully in the mercy and life of God. Today, we are invited to join the parishioners of Annunciation Church in a special prayer to thank God for his gracious gift. The prayer begins at 3:00 p.m.
I want to thank Fr. Joe McNally who led us in the Holy week liturgies. And I offer my personal thanks to Mike Hurt who served as master of ceremonies (Mike spent several hours with me reviewing the ceremonies). Franciscan Father Leopold Keffler returns to preside at the Masses this weekend.
Beautiful pansies and newly-laid mulch welcome us this Easter season. Bob Radez donated the pansies and mulch and Don Williams provided the free labor. Thanks to both of you.
By now you have heard about the tragic fire that totally destroyed St. Anne’s church in New Castle. My classmate, Fr. Joe Rantenberg, serves as sacramental minister there. I know you join me in prayer as the parishioners face this great loss, especially at the hands of an arsonist! Easter faith will give them the strength not only to rebuild from the ashes, but to extend forgiveness to the malefactor.
My doctors told me last week that my injuries have been healed (and I no longer have to wear my chest brace!). However, I’m discovering that healing and recovery are two different things. I am now beginning physical therapy to help me to walk again. This may last 6 or more weeks. Thanks for all your prayers.
Easter Love: “God’s love is not diminished by being expended. It grows through giving. Does this not suggest that we are not depleted through the giving of ourselves? That we should not parse out our lives in small, manageable bits? Time is money, we say. No, Time is a gift. And the greatest gift of all is the gift of God’s only – begotten Son. That is what the season of Easter is all about. Thinking of that gift helps us to frame our understanding of the world and what it gives us.”
Fr. Steve

Thomas Clegg, Fr. Nicholas Dant, and Fr. Clement Davis. |
