FROM FATHER STEVE:
The month of May brings special devotion to Mary. A May Crowning will be held today (May 6) at St. Paul’s at 9:30 a.m. If you pray the rosary, consider reflecting on the Glorious Mysteries celebrated during this Easter Season.
You have probably heard that I reached the grand “old” age of 60 on May 4th! Thanks to all of you who sent birthday wishes. Someone sent this message pertaining to my recovery, but I also thought it most suitable for a birthday: “Each new day is a gift from God. So remember, whether it’s a good day or a bad day, it’s always a God-loves-you day!
I have some more good health news. Last Monday I visited by spinal-column injury doctor for the final time. He has placed me on a four-week physical therapy regimen to strengthen my back and stomach muscles (I’m having so much fun with those exercises!). Also, my injured foot/leg continues to get stronger and I am doing a limited amount of walking and climbing steps.
In last week’s bulletin, we offered a clarification regarding the building project for our capital campaign. Last December Eric Atkins visited our parish to survey our buildings (Eric is the Director of Management Services for the Archdiocese).
“Into Great Silence” is an award-winning film about the monks of the Grande Chartreuse monastery, the head monastery of the Carthusian order, high in the French Alps. This is not an ordinary documentary film, concerned with the transmission of information. Rather, one is given a spiritual voyage into the inner meaning of monastic life and, if one is open to it, an experience of the inner peace and freedom that comes from God. So, to watch this film receptively can be a transforming experience. “Into Great Silence” is now playing at various locations around the country and is slated for a DVD release in the Fall.
