FROM FATHER STEVE:

Our First Communion celebration will take place during the 12:15 p.m. Sunday Mass this weekend.  I send congratulations to our first communicants on behalf of our entire parish!  Children – Never forget what a wonderful gift Jesus has given to us, his very self.  The world “communion” means “to be one with.”  He always wants to be one with us and we with him.  Stay alive in Jesus and always treasure his friendship.

On this Mother’s Day, be sure to thank your mothers for their love and care.  And pray for them that they may be faithful to their very important vocation.  If your mother (like mine) is among the faithful departed, again thank God for them.

Our religious education program has officially ended for this year.  I want to thank all of our catechists (and that includes you parents) for sharing your faith and guiding our youth in the ways of Christ.  Stephen Prothero, a historian of American religion, has just authored a book entitled “Religious Literacy: What Every American Needs to Know – And Doesn’t.”  Religion matters greatly in our world, says Prothero, yet far too many people are not very literate about their religious heritage.  So, I encourage all of our religious educators to realize the importance of their work.

On the health front, I continue with my daily regimen of physical therapy.  I can now carry nearly 50% of my total body weight using my injured foot.  Thanks for all your prayers.

When I opened by first two presents on my 60th birthday, guess what they were?  One was a basket of fruit and the second was a basket containing bottles of Ensure and a package of dried prunes.  I would tell you more, but I have to run to the……
