FROM FATHER STEVE:

Today the Easter Season comes to its climax as we celebrate the Solemnity of Pentecost.  The Pentecost story is familiar to us:  The frightened disciples, gathered in their upper room, experience the presence of the Spirit in such a profound way that it drives them out into the world to proclaim and preach the gospel with a courage they did not have before.  How often do we find ourselves afraid, closed off in our “Upper room,” hesitant to step forward in faith?  The power and gifts of the Holy Spirit are still available to us!

I want to thank Fr. Joe Kern who presided at our Masses last weekend.  Fr. Dan Mahan (executive director of the Marian College Center for Catholic Stewardship) is helping us this weekend.  Welcome, Father Dan!  Fr. Bernie LaMontagne will be returning on the weekends of June 2/3 and 9/10.

Since I will no longer have any pastoral obligations at Annunciation parish in Brazil beginning July 3rd, we will be revising our weekend Mass schedule again.  We will keep you posted about the Mass times and the starting date.

Don’t forget that on next weekend, June 2/3, the annual collection in support of our seminarians will be taken.  This year we are blessed with 27 men studying for the priesthood.  The annual cost per student is $27,500.  A am grateful for your support of this collection.  Long ago, I benefited from it.

The nomination process for election to our Pastoral Council is taking place now.  Nominate parishioners (perhaps even yourself) whom you think have a good pastoral sense and can serve our parish well.

This Memorial Day weekend officially inaugurates the summer vacation season.  We should enjoy our leisure time, but let’s not forget to make “Memorial” (to remember) those Americans who made our freedoms and opportunities possible.

Father Steve

St. Paul’s Vocations Committee

SECOND COLLECTION: EDUCATION OF FUTURE ARCHDIOESAN PRIESTS

The archdiocese has 26 seminarians 12 of which are in theology school approaching their final years of study.  Three of these men are being ordained to the priesthood this weekend.  Thank you for your spiritual and financial support which provides the necessary education and formation for our priests.  Please be generous in support of this collection and please continue to pray for vocations!
