FROM FATHER STEVE:

What a joy to return to celebrate Mass with you this weekend.  It’s been a long journey.  I am continuing with my physical therapy program in order to gain strength and increase my stamina.  So, bear with me as I “gradually” return to full-time ministry.

On this Father’s Day, we pray for our fathers (living and deceased).  Thanks to all of you fathers who embrace the challenges of your vocation, especially by sharing your faith with your children and setting a good example.

Next weekend, Fr. Tom Lindner will be here to speak on behalf of Hands Together.  Hands Together is a Catholic lay mission program founded to serve the very poor in Haiti.  I know you will give a warm welcome to Father Tom.  He comes at the invitation of the Archdiocesan Mission Office.

Good News!  Beginning August 18-19, we will be returning to a three-Mass schedule on the weekends.  And we will have NEW Mass times------Saturday, 5:00 p.m.; Sunday, 8:30 and 11:00 a.m.

Dave Lilly and Steve Mader have completed their terms on the Pastoral Council.  I want to thank them and the other members of the Council who serve our parish well.

The English edition of Pope Benedict XVI’s new book, “Jesus of Nazareth,” has just been published (an excerpt appeared in the May 11th issue of “Newsweek”).  What is the thesis of the book?  Writer John Allen notes:  “Benedict’s thesis is that there can be no humane social order or true moral progress apart from a right relationship with God; try as it might, a world organized ‘as if God does not exist; will be dysfunctional and ultimately inhumane.  Jesus Christ, Benedict insists, is ‘the sign of God for human beings.’  Presenting humanity with the proper teaching about Jesus is, therefore, the highest form of public service the church has to offer.”

Father Steve
