FROM FATHER STEVE:
On this 16th Sunday in Ordinary Time, we hear the stories of Divine visitations. God visits Abraham through three heavenly messengers (Gn.18). and Jesus visits the home of Martha and Mary (Lk. 10). The story of Martha and Mary has received a variety of interpretations. One has been to contrast the contemplative life of prayer to active life---with the contemplative winning out. The evangelist Luke’s intent was not to give Martha a bad name (she was “busy about many things”), but to highlight the importance of prayer in the life of a disciple. How would we describe our prayer time before the Lord?
Mass schedule: Please remember that we will begin our new weekday schedule starting July 31. Mass will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays at 8:30a.m. The new weekend schedule starts August 18. Masses will be held on Saturdays at 5:00 pm and Sundays at 8:30 and 11:00 a.m.
I want to thank Paulette Davis, our coordinator for Religious Education, for serving as our liaison on the new Catholic Education Strategic Planning Committee for the Terre haute Deanery. Paulette was involved in the inaugural leadership group (organized by the Archdiocese) to help solicit input from the parishes regarding total Catholic education. Now is the time to strategize and implement a vision.
The national meeting of the National Association of Pastoral Musicians was held last week in Indianapolis. Hundreds of parish musicians, liturgists and pastors attend this gathering. I am happy to report that our music director, Jill Dombrowski, was able to participate this year.
Someone once said: “Making a ‘living’ is not the same thing as making a ‘life.’ Here’s to Life!
