THERE ARE A FEW OF YOU …VOLUNTEER MINISTERS who have not sent in your sign up sheet for the NEW MASS times that will start on August 18/19. We now have a computer program that schedules volunteers…it (Betty) needs to know what times you prefer. We had to publish the new schedule this week due to the expiration time factor. You make the Mass a wonderful worship time. Thank you |

FROM FATHER STEVE:
On this 18th Sunday in Ordinary Time, we hear the parable about the man who built several barns to store his abundant harvest—without any consideration for the needs of others (Lk. 12). Jesus uses the parable to expose the folly of pursuing earthly riches. Many of us have benefited from the “rich harvest” of our nation’s bounty. Yet we are just beginning to assess the burden that our surplus of goods places not just on the poor but on the natural environment and our souls as well. Jesus is not maligning wealth as such, but teaching us that our riches (money, property, talents) are to be shared, not hoarded. As the current commercial asks: “What’s in your wallet?”
I am happy to announce that Brian and Linda Gilmartin have volunteered to serve as campaign leaders for our Capital Campaign this fall. I am gratified by their response and look forward to working with them on this important project for our parish. The campaign is entitled Legacy for Our Mission and will be jointly shared by St. Paul’s and the Archdiocese. Our goal is $425,000. Pledges may be fulfilled over a three year period. More information will be forthcoming.
Recently the bishops of the Province of Indianapolis voted to raise the standard Mass stipend to $10.00 from the current $5.00 offering. This will take effect in the Archdiocese of Indianapolis October 1, 2007. However, the increase to a $10.00 stipend is effective immediately on an occasion when a person requests $100.00 or more be given for Masses. The archbishop will be offering some catechesis about Mass stipends in The Criterion.
This Thursday I will be attending an all-day Training Workshop at The Catholic Center for newly-ordained priests, international priests, and their mentors. I have been invited to serve as mentor for one year to Father Dom Chukwudi, the new administrator of Annunciation Parish in Brazil and Holy Rosary Parish in Seelyville.
Quote: “Lord, he who serves you best who is not so anxious to hear from you what he wills as to will what he hears from you” (St. Augustine).
