FROM FATHER STEVE
Have you ever had to stop at the end of an exit ramp where there is a beggar with a sign? You know the scene. How do you respond to this beggar? What goes on in your mind? Do you help the poor man or not? In today’s Gospel on this 26th Sunday in Ordinary Time, Jesus tells a parable about the rich man and the poor beggar, Lazarus (Lk. 16). There is a large gap between their two worlds. And the rich man fails to respond to the needs of this poor man (which has eternal consequences). We live in a society where the gap between the rich and the poor continues to grow. How well do we notice (and care for) the Lazaruses at our gates? Do we realize that our action (or inaction) has eternal consequences?
This is DePauw Family Weekend. We welcome the DePauw parents and their family members!
Please note that the October DePauw Student Mass & Supper will be held next Sunday (October 7) rather than October 14 (which is fall break).
Don’t forget that we will be holding a life chain for Putnam County next Sunday, Respect Life Sunday. I hope many parishioners will be able to participate.
The Legacy for Our Mission Capital Stewardship Campaign continues to progress well. I was delighted by the progress reports presented by our many leaders and volunteers last Monday night. As I mentioned—when the Campaign was first introduced—this Campaign is not about raising money only. However, we do wish to raise money that will help us carry out God’s mission and work. Our prayer together will help us to stay focused on our mission and allow us to respond generously. There will be many opportunities for prayer throughout the Campaign. A Day of Prayer is slated for October 14. The rosary will be prayed on Wednesdays (9 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.) and evening prayer on Thursdays (5 p.m.). for the Campaign. Eucharistic adoration will be held this Thursday evening and November 1.
Effective October 1, the standard Mass stipend offering increases from $5.00 to $10.00. All dioceses in Indiana will follow this new offering structure.
Quote: “An open heart and gratitude go together. An open heart, compassion, and a passion for justice go together. An open heart feels the suffering and pain of the world and responds to it.”

Food Pantry Sunday is next week There is a great need in Putnam County for food distribution. The Food Pantry has been very low as of late with the increase in demand in the community.
In January 2007 St. Elizabeth/Coleman Pregnancy & Adoption Services announced its exit from residential services. We are still a vital agency offering adoption services. We continue to provide pregnant women and mothers with physical and emotional support to help them make the best long-term decisions for their child.
Visit www.stelizabeths.org to learn more about our current services or call us at 317.787.3412.
