FROM FATHER STEVE
On this 29th Sunday in Ordinary Time, we continue to listen to the Gospel of St. Luke. His Gospel is sometimes called the “Gospel of Prayer” because in it Jesus prays at the most important moments of his life and it contains substantial sections devoted to prayer. In one place Jesus teaches us the “Our Father” to encourage us to be bold in our praying. Today (Luke 18) we hear about persistence in prayer. Next weekend we will hear about the importance of humility in prayer. How persistent are you in prayer? Do you find yourself giving up? Have others supported you in prayer? Have you been a support to others?
Today (October 21) is World Mission Sunday. Once again we have the opportunity to reach out in faith to more than two-thirds of the world’s people who have yet to hear of Jesus Christ. Won’t you recommit to our Church’s evangelizing mission? The missionary work of the Church depends on each one of us.
Thanks to all of you who participated in our Day of Prayer last Sunday as part of our Legacy for Our Mission Capital Stewardship Campaign. This weekend we are handing out information packets about the campaign at each of the Masses. I hope you will have the chance to read the materials enclosed to learn more about the campaign and ways to give. It’s important that we “lift up” one another in prayer so that we can answer this vital question: “Lord, what do you want to do through me to fulfill your will for our church?” Commitment Weekend is November 17 and 18.
Theology Night Out returns on Thursday. Parishioner and DePauw Professor of Communications and Theater Jeff McCall will speak on the subject of his new book Mass Media: Viewer Discretion Advised. Don’t miss it!
Once again the Catechists Appreciation Dinner (on October 13) was a huge success. Thanks to Marjorie Secrest and all the volunteers who helped. And thanks to our catechists!
At the Clergy Business Meeting last week, we were given updates on the Capital Campaign (to date $85 million of the $100 million goal has been pledged) and the Mexican priest exchange program. We began initial work on an Archdiocesan stategic planning consultation. It was announced that a priestly life and ministry summit will be held next June 9-11.
Quote: “We are all means of blessing for one another. You have to want to be a blessing of course. And who knows? Maybe the problem is not that we don’t see the blessings around us. It may be that we fail to see ourselves as blessings. And so we aren’t.”

ADULT FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMS: Don’t miss the chance to learn more about our beautiful Catholic faith and share in discussion with other adults from all parishes, Tuesday nights at 7:00 p.m. at St. Patrick’s rectory living room.
St. Paul the Apostle is assigned to pray for the following abortion facility: Indianapolis Women’s Center. We are asked to pray for women who are tempted to abort their unborn children and all those who participate in abortion including their families and abortion facility personnel. Also, we should pray for conversion, repentance and healing for those who have already participated in an abortion. Spending time in Eucharistic adoration, rosaries, chaplets and devotional prayers are encouraged.
