FROM FATHER STEVE

We hear a lot about the “end of the world” at this time of our church year. In today’s Gospel (Luke 21) Jesus warns his disciples not to be misled by predictions and claims of knowledge about the end of time. But he promised his disciples that he would give them the wisdom to meet their adversaries, to testify to their faith, and to persevere. The Christian does not see “catastrophe”—whether that be war, hunger, shattered families, or an unsettled economy—as a time of panic or fear, but as an opportunity to witness to the faith.

As a part of our Legacy for Our Mission Capital Stewardship Campaign, all parishioners are invited to attend one of the Special Events to be held in conjunction with each of the Masses this weekend. Over food and drink, we will have the opportunity to enjoy our parish family and to rejoice in God’s many blessings to us.

This weekend, November 17-18, is Commitment Weekend for our campaign. We have asked parishioners to bring their commitment card this weekend and return it during a special ceremony during Mass. Pledges are needed from each of our households to guarantee the success of our campaign. Remember: It’s not equal gifts, but equal sacrifice. Even if you cannot make a commitment this time, please sign your card and return it. Please continue to keep the campaign in your prayers.

This past week we sent an email to the 16 Catholic players on the DePauw football team to convey our congratulations to the entire team for their Monon Bell Victory last Saturday.

Our Thanksgiving Mass will be celebrated on the eve of Thanksgiving, Wednesday, November 21. Mass begins at 7:00 p.m. We hope many of you can come.

The Catholic Campaign for Human Development collection will be taken next weekend, November 24-25. This campaign was created by the U.S, bishops to help people find permanent solutions to the problem of poverty. Real, sustainable change is happening because of the support of parishioners across the country.

Thanksgiving. John Hughes served as a New York taxi driver for 38 years. One night, as he was cleaning out his cab, he discovered an emerald ring. He tried to remember which customer that day might be the owner. He concluded it was a woman who had several packages. It took two days to find her. Sure enough! She was the owner. But the woman not only failed to give him a reward for his trouble. She didn’t even say thanks! Don’t forget to say thanks, not only this Thanksgiving Day, but every day.

                                                Father Steve

At 11:00 Mass we need extra video camera operators.  If you would be willing to perform this ministry please contact Marvin Peters or Betty Lancaster at the office.
