Our Ministries

The ministries at St. Paul are many and varied. Every few weeks a ministry will be featured here. When a new ministry is described here, the previous one will be moved to the Ministries menu, where all will eventually be described.

 Sacristan

A person walking into a Catholic sanctuary to celebrate Mass sees details, all of which are necessary for Mass. Every element in the sanctuary is in order, clean and ready for a Eucharistic celebration. New Advent Catholic Encyclopedia defines a sacristan as an officer who cares for the sacristy, where vestments and sacred vessels are stored, the sanctuary and all contents.

Our sacristans describe their ministry as: "This is a secret angel ministry. We work in the background to keep the church looking nice, welcoming and orderly. We support the Sacred Liturgy by caring for the linens used during Mass. We launder purificators, corporals, and maintain votive candles; clean votive glasses and keep larger votives full, especially on the altar; sort and re-hang server albs; once or twice a year wash server albs."

If you are interested in being part of this important ministry contact Linda Tyler, the Sacristan Ministry coordinator. The commitment is about two hours per week for one month each year.
